Your
general physician may start the acne treatment by prescribing Benzoyl peroxide. If it does not work then there
are many other many other topical and oral treatment options
Topical treatments
Following are the topical treatments that are normally
prescribed

Azelaic acid is a substitute of benzoyl peroxide
that does not make the skin sore like benzoyl peroxide.

Vitamin A based topical medicines are retinoids.
They work by flaking off the outer skin layer
·
Some topical antibiotic lotions can also be used
for controlling P.acne bacteria. The treatment must be continued for 6 months.
Oral treatments
Following are some oral treatments that are normally
prescribed
·
Oral antibiotics like tetracycline are prescribed
for inflammatory acne. They must be taken daily for three months but sometimes it also takes 6 months.

Some oral contraceptive pills also effectively
treat acne of women.
·
Oral Retinoids are also effective. These are
prescribed for the severe acne cases. There are some serious side effects of this treatment. So it must only be
prescribed under the supervision of dermatologist.
